Bandipora, Dec 29 (KNS) : On the directions of the Transport Commissioner, J&K, a team of the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO), Bandipora carried out a comprehensive traffic checking drive on the Hajin–Sumbal road to ensure compliance with traffic norms and enhance road safety.

During the drive, more than 140 vehicles were thoroughly inspected. The enforcement team issued challans against defaulters, including 27 compoundable challans, imposing fines amounting to ?36,600.

The checking drive primarily targeted high-risk traffic violations that are major contributors to road accidents and fatalities. These included riding two-wheelers without helmets, driving four-wheelers without wearing seat belts, operating vehicles without functional speed-limiting devices, wrong and unauthorized parking causing obstruction and congestion, and driving vehicles without valid motor insurance, in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Officials emphasized that such violations not only endanger the lives of road users but also create serious legal and financial risks, particularly in cases where uninsured vehicles are involved in accidents, leaving victims uncompensated.

The ARTO Bandipora stated that such targeted enforcement drives are aimed at deterring habitual offenders, creating a strong visible deterrence, and reinforcing the message that non-compliance with traffic laws will invite strict legal action and monetary penalties. Regular checking drives will continue in the district in the interest of public safety.(KNS)
