‎Srinagar, Sep 15 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday hit back at the Opposition over its criticism of the government’s functioning, saying the decision to convene a seven-day Assembly session reflected seriousness towards legislative business, unlike the BJP’s call for a two-day session.
‎
‎Speaking to reporters after handing over appointment orders to a new batch of JKAS and Accounts Service officers, Omar said there was “no non-seriousness” in convening a seven-day session.
‎
‎“Non-seriousness would have happened if we had followed the path shown by the BJP, where they have called for a two-day session,” he said.
‎
‎The Chief Minister said his government remained present in the Assembly throughout its working days.
‎
‎“We are sitting in the Assembly from morning and leave in the evening. There is no such day when we are not present in the Assembly,” he said as per kashmir news service (KNS).
‎
‎Omar also hit out at the BJP over its criticism of the government, asking the party to first examine attendance and participation in Parliament before questioning the seriousness of the J&K government.
‎
‎“They are never seen in Parliament. So, non-seriousness… Look at Parliament. Who sits for how long? Then they tell me who is taking it seriously and who is not,” he said.
‎
‎Asked about statements issued by the Opposition on a daily basis, Omar said he would not respond to each one.
‎
‎“You should not expect me to answer every statement,” he said, adding, “I will react to one of their statements every month. Not every day.”
‎
‎Asked whether he was worried about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Omar referred to his statement made earlier in the day.
‎
‎“I said it this morning. There is no need to say anything more,” he said.
‎

‎“We can be hasty. But we have often seen that the result of hastiness is not good,” he said.
‎
‎Omar said he had asked recruiting agencies to ensure transparency and follow due procedure even if the process took longer than two months.
‎
‎“Even if it takes more than two months, transparency should be maintained. Procedures should be followed so that there is no complaint about the process tomorrow,” he said.
‎
‎He said recruitment was under way across departments and that the government was also working on the budget session.

‎Responding to questions about whether he was worried about some of his MLAs switching sides, Omar rejected the suggestion.
‎
‎“Why are you asking stupid questions?” he said when asked whether he counted his MLAs every day out of fear that some might “slip”.
‎
‎“I am not afraid at all. I am not afraid at all. I have complete faith in my people,” he said.
‎
‎The Chief Minister then alleged that some people commenting against his government had approached him after the government was formed seeking appointments or accommodation.
‎
‎He said some of them had approached his office after the government was formed seeking to be “adjusted” somewhere.
‎
‎“I do not open my mouth to respect them. But you… take out the records. They come to my office,” he said.
‎
‎Omar also alleged that some commentators had turned against his government after failing to secure government accommodation.
‎
‎“Here are those commentators who do not get a government house. So they use social media against the government,” he said.
‎
‎“If I had given them a flat in Jawahar Nagar, would they have dared to write like this?” Omar asked, calling it “selfishness”.
‎
‎“I am not worried about selfishness,” he added.(KNS
