With the reports that the PDP-BJP government is filing cases with police against consumers resorting to power theft, the government Friday said that though there is already a procedure in the governments electricity act but made it clear that there is no such plan of government to send power thieves to jail.
“There is no such plan of government. Such procedure is already in the Jammu and Kashmir government’s electricity act. But I can tell you that nobody has been booked under the act,” Chief engineer PDD Bashir Ahmad Khan told KNS over phone.
He said that the Power Department only impose penalties against those consumers involved in power theft.
Khan further added that the Power theft cases have reduces from last few months. “There are less cases of power theft from the last few months. Power department is committed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the consumers. We are trying our level best to ensure round the clock power supply to the consumers,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
However he said that it has been found that frequent use of electric gadgets like boilers has been problem for the department. “We have started a drive against those who make frequent use of electric gadgets,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the reports Friday said that PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir is filing cases with police against consumers resorting to power theft while “earmarking” two full-fledged police stations in Srinagar and Jammu for the purpose.
“In a high-level meeting chaired by J&K’s Chief Vigilance Commissioner KuldeepKhoda here, the Power Development Department was asked to register FIRs in all cases of electricity theft or illegal power connections that come to the fore and monitor the progress of investigation and trial thereof,” the reports had said.KNS
