Says after examinations department will conduct rationalization of teachers to provide sufficient staff to government schools

Srinagar, Nov 10 (KNS): The Director School Education, Tasaduq Hussain Mir on Wednesday said that there was no inadequacy of infrastructure and resources for the government school in Kashmir.

Hussain, while talking to reporters here said that they are not lagging behind infrastructure and resources. “Compared to whole country we spend much more on every student and this enrollment drive will take our education to a new level,” he said.

He said that they have started this drive so as to facilitate optimum enrollment in government schools but no injustice would be done to private schools as they wont retain any student just for money.

He said that after the end of examinations a rationalization of teachers program would be started to provide sufficient staff for the government schools which will fulfill the educational needs of students as well as provide employment to so many youth.

"We will keep our hopes high and our team at Handwara is a dedicated one. They wont let us down. We will do our best to make this enrollment drive a successful program,” he added.

He said that they don’t lack infrastructure, this is a misconception as they have the highest infrastructure in the entire country.

“If we go by the figures we spend about Ts 1.10 lakh per student per year when national average is forty to fifty thousands. So vis a vis infrastructure we are not lagging behind nor we are lagging behind resources but we need a motivational drive which we have inculcated in our teachers and our teachers are very enthusiastic about the enrolment drive,” he said.

Hussain said that for the last two years due to COVID-19 pandemic, a little bit of demotivation happened and also many cases of children came up regarding their mental health.

“Because of these obstacles our drive was hampered since two years. But now we have started it as a full-fledged drive in the Kashmir division and we wont give up until this drive becomes a successful drive,” he said.

Replying to a question, Husain said that they cannot retain any student if he or she wants to go to a private school just for money. “Money is not the criteria for education. We wont affect the studies of children. As per Right to Education Act we cannot retain any student just for money".

Regarding the transport charges being charged by DPS School despite government orders, he said the fee fixation committee has issued an order regarding a full-fledged audit of DPS school and after the enquiry the matter will be resolved.

About the rationalization in government schools, he said that for government schools student-teacher ratio is 1:11 almost whereas in the entire country the ratio is 1:20.

“Definitely, there is a need of rationalization in the government schools. After the examinations are over, during the lean period in the winters, School Education will conduct a district wise rationalization of teachers in order to provide sufficient staff for schools where the enrollment of students is in huge numbers, irrespective of the place whether rural or urban,” Hussain said.

He also said that there has been a proper scheme framed for contingent pay and district level committee has been framed. “We have submiited all the details and it is being done in a phased manner.”

Regarding pending works for buildings in rural areas, he said that the plan gets in shape as per the need and if any buiding is needed for educational purposes then it gets prioritised and the work begins.

Regarding the recent dismissal of employees of school education he said that, definitely Zonal Education officers(ZEO’s) and Chief Education Officers(CEO’s) have a significant role in scheme recognition and monitoring the academics.

“Due to some reasons some of these employees were changed by Deputy Commissioners but we are going to recruit new ones after the end of this academic session,” he said.

Notably, the School Education deparment has decided to hold a massive enrollment drive to increase the student enrolment in the government schools.

The move comes after government schools witnessed a dip in student enrolment since the last year. (KNS)
