Bandipora, March 05:(KNS)  Former legislator from Bandipora and senior politician Nizam-ud-din Bhat on Saturday exhorted upon the UT administration to streamline engagement of seasonal labours and other workers in the BEACON project, NHPC and HCC dealing with Kishen-Ganga Hydro Electric Power Project (KHEP).

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), on Saturday, Bhat said there are complaints of serious nature including favoritism and other political influences inn these projects that are sending a wrong message among the unemployed youngsters of the area whose bread and butter depends on these projects. He said the youngsters who have given their best to these companies in difficult times are being ignored now for political influences thus snatching the livelihood of many.

Bhat made these remarks during an extensive tour to Mantrigam and adjoining villages. He was accompanied by Vice-Chairperson District Development Council Kounser Shafeeq and BDC chairman Bashir Ahmad.

Sarpanchs Mushtaq Ahmad,  Bagh Hussain , Mohd Hussain and several Panchs were also accompanying Bhat during the tour. Enroute locals interacted with the former legislator and informed him about various problems being faced by them in day to day life and sought his intervention in getting the grievances redressed. They flagged several issues  of public interest especially the issue of employment in KHEP and Beacon.

Bhat while interacting with the locals at Mantrigam village expressed deep anguish that no regard is paid to determined criteria of experience and skill of the local population while providing employment in Beacon, NHPC and HCC thereby isolating the youth of the area who are now living in distress.

While highlighting the issue, Bhat alleged that the local administration and members of Panchayat Raj Institutions  are also being ignored deliberately there by eroding the sanctity of these institutions despite the government claiming to have empowered these institutions for local governance.

Bhat appealed Lieutenant Governor to issue orders to the concerned officers to consult local administration including DDC and BDC Chairpersons before taking any decision so that the faith on democratic institutions is restored and people are involved in decision making process.(KNS)
