‘Academic trips play a vital role in the overall development of students for gaining practical experience’: Dir NIT

Srinagar, April 11 (KNS): The Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Sunday organized one day-long academic field trip for students and faculty aimed to get a first-hand learning experience on the ground beyond their classrooms.

The day-long trip was flagged off by Director NIT, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal and said that field trips are undoubtedly the best ways to promote team spirit over knowledgeable activities. It is very important to learn things practically by conducting educational trips, he said.

Dr. Sehgal academic field trips are important for both students to make them aware of their surroundings and introduce new ways of learning to gain desired information. Trips will also allow them to learn, absorb and experience things practically, Director said.

On the occasion, Registrar NIT, Prof. Kaiser Bukhari said academic trips play a vital role in the overall development of the students to gain practical knowledge. It will allow students to remember, learn and understand subjects for their lifetime, he said.

Bukhari said NIT Srinagar has issued clear instructions to all departments to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines in view of the surge in cases in the valley.

HOD Chemistry, Prof. Kowsar Majid informed that such trips offer students an extraordinary cultural learning experience and allow students to be involved in a new atmosphere along with broadening the students’ understanding ability.

Covid19 guidelines including wearing of masks and social distancing was ensured by the department on priority during the whole trip and students visited the Tulip garden and Botanical garden.

 "Furthermore, the community grabbed an on-spot opportunity to serve the environment by conducting a cleanliness drive under the theme of "Smart Trash-Picking Hiking Sticks," which was designed and devolved by Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Shah,” She said.

Prof. Kowsar said the scenes were applauded and appreciated by the visitors in the gardens. It was an overwhelming experience for all—to witness faculty members and students taking active participation in the Cleaning Drive. Such trips encourage a sense of teamwork and community among the students, she said.

“Following the event’s success, the Department of Chemistry will be organizing more academic trips in the future also—for the larger good of students as well as NIT Srinagar. We are grateful to Director NIT, Prof Sehgal for his cooperation, support in the overall development of the department,” she said.

Dr. Kowasar said during the trip both students and research scholars were highly motivated to take up such activities in the future for understanding and executing the ideas to protect the environment from any degradation.

Apart from faculty members around 72 students and scholars participated in the trip and appreciated the department for conducting field trips. They also expressed their gratitude to Director NIT for his positive support in such initiatives.(KNS)
