The participants called for Punjabi to be accorded official language status alongside Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi and English.

They said recognition of Punjabi would help preserve and promote the language and its cultural heritage while addressing a longstanding concern of the Sikh community.

The meeting also discussed various difficulties, demands and issues confronting Sikhs across Jammu and Kashmir.

Among those present were Minority Cell Convener Jagdish Singh Azad, former minister Manjit Singh, Jammu Provincial Youth President Sardar Tejinder Singh Aman and other party office-bearers.(KNS)
