Srinagar, Jan 15 (KNS) : The nation on Thursday observed Indian Army Day with pride and solemnity, commemorating the historic appointment of General (later Field Marshal) K.M. Cariappa, OBE, as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief on January 15, 1949.

In Kashmir, commemorative events were held at several locations, including Srinagar, Sharifabad, Uri, and Tangdhar. Senior military officials presided over wreath-laying ceremonies.
