Demands adequate supply of electricity in Kashmir

Srinagar Oct 5 (KNS):  Senior Congress Leader and Former Legislator Ghulam Nabi Monga on Thursday expressed grave concern over the erratic electric supply in Kashmir and demanded that adequate supply should be maintained to meet the requirement.

Monga also took a dig at the installation of smart meters, saying that there was an urgent need to reform the supply especially in winter, but the irony is that supply gets affected badly during winter months every year citing load shedding, etc.

In a statement, Ghulam Nabi Monga lashed out at erratic electricity supply especially on the onset of winter in Kashmir and said that there is no second thought about the intensity of cold in winter months, which always remain terrible during the peak of winter and requires uninterrupted power supply for survival.

There are reports of regular power cuts not only in Srinagar, but across Kashmir despite installation of Smart Meters in various areas. Smart meters means regular electricity supply wherever these are installed, but there is absolutely a different situation, as that both metered and non-metered areas are equally confronted with uninterrupted  power cuts,  but the irony is that LG administration has not fixed responsibility as yet, which shows how present J&K dispensation and PDD are serious about this urgent  public issue.

PDD was required to reform power supply keeping view the winter season, Monga added and said rather than forcefully thrusting smart meters on public, LG administration should ensure that power supply be ensured across J&K both in metered and non -metered areas equally making it easier for the public to face the winter.

Senior Congress Leader further highlighted the various issues of public importance especially unprecedented price hike on essentials and said poor people have been pushed towards economic backwardness with the result they find it more difficult to purchase essentials and demanded roll back of prices on essentials, edible oils and other items required for living.(KNS)
