Srinagar, July 13 (KNS): Apni Party Provincial President Mohammad Ashraf Mir has expressed deep disappointment over the government’s failure to pay homage to the martyrs of July 13, 1931. In a statement issued here, Mir said that the least one could have expected from the cabinet were gestures like observing a moment of silence and holding a meeting in memory of these martyrs on their anniversary today.

He said, “Today, every Kashmiri had hoped that the present government would rise above optics and take a meaningful step toward reconciliation and justice. The expectations weren’t grand — just a simple, dignified acknowledgment of our shared history. Declaring July 13 a holiday to honour the martyrs was not merely a symbolic act; it was a test of political will, moral courage, and respect for the sacrifices that laid the foundation for democratic aspirations in Jammu & Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He further said, “Even if the government failed to ensure that a holiday was declared, one expected at least a symbolic gesture from the Cabinet — a moment of silence, a wreath, a gathering in the lawns of the Civil Secretariat to pay homage. But even that did not happen. It is becoming increasingly clear that the government is not merely indifferent but is actively retreating from the promises it once made. This backtracking is not just about policy — it’s about trust, about memory, and about the very soul of Kashmiri identity.”(KNS)
