Srinagar, Oct 20 (KNS): Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq has expressed serious concern over reports that the historic Race Course Mosque in New Delhi has been served a six-day eviction notice.
In a post on X, the Mirwaiz said the mosque, a gazetted Waqf property since 1977 and a listed heritage site, faces eviction, while questioning the reported failure of Waqf authorities to defend it.
“Is this becoming the new normal for Muslim places of worship?” he asked, reiterating his opposition to the Waqf amendments and increased government control over Muslim religious endowments through appointed nominees.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The Mirwaiz questioned what safeguards remain for other religious properties if a legally recognised mosque cannot be protected.
He said the development underscores concerns over the autonomy of Muslim religious institutions, the accountability of Waqf authorities and the protection of religious properties from arbitrary interference. (KNS)
