Srinagar, Nov 01 (KNS); Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house detention again on Sunday, preventing him from delivering a scheduled religious sermon at Masjid Mehboob-ul-Alam (RA) in Zoonimar area of Srinagar.
Announcing the restriction in a post on X, Mirwaiz said he had been placed under house detention ahead of the scheduled Majlis-e-Waaz, alleging that the action followed his Friday address at the historic Jama Masjid, where he referred to a recently published report of the International Crisis Group on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Apparently, stating uncomfortable facts and endorsing recommendations, out of concern for the future of my people and genuine peace in J&K and the region, is not acceptable to the ruling regime," he said.

Mirwaiz had referred to the report while addressing Friday congregational prayers at Jama Masjid, highlighting concerns over prolonged detentions, political prisoners, restrictions on civil liberties and the need for meaningful political engagement and reconciliation.
He expressed disappointment over being prevented from addressing Sunday's religious gathering, saying devotees who had been looking forward to participating in the sermon would be disappointed.
"Saddened that people looking forward to participating in the religious and spiritually inspiring Majlis-e-Waaz will be hugely disappointed," he said. (KNS)
