Sopore, Dec 28 (KNS): Locals from Tarzoo area of Sopore in Baramulla district Tuesday demanded complete desilting of Nallah Khrusoo and urged district administration to remove illegal encroachments along its banks.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) they said that the Nallah flow from Puthkha to Lalad and than to Amargrah and finally merges with river Jhelum, however, it has been encroached at various spots while as the Irrigation department has failed to maintain the canal.

They urged the irrigation department to remove the silt from the canal to restore its pristine glory. “The department was desilting other minor canals but ironically they continue to ignore this major canal and the repeated please by the locals,” they said.

They alleged that despite their repeated pleas the concerned department has failed to restore this Nallah to its original shape.

Meanwhile, executive engineer Irrigation and Flood Control department Sopore, Javed Ahmed Sofi told KNS that the matter has been taken up and desilting process will be started soon.

On being asked about illegal encroachment along its banks, he said that the matter will be looked into. (KNS)
