Over 1,100 entries from 80 countries received; 135 films shortlisted for four-day event

Srinagar, Sep 7 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir’s first international film festival opened here on Monday, with more than 1,100 entries received from 80 countries and 135 films shortlisted for screening.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo inaugurated the four-day International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK), being held from September 7 to 10.

Dulloo said the international participation would add diversity and a global character to the festival while providing local filmmakers and artists an opportunity to gain exposure to world cinema, its trends and techniques.

“This is the first-ever International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a four-day festival from September 7 to 10. We received an overwhelming response, with entries from 80 countries and more than 1,100 submissions,” he said.

He said 135 films had been shortlisted for screening during the festival, including more than 60 foreign films.

The Chief Secretary said the festival would help reconnect Jammu and Kashmir with the wider world of cinema and encourage filmmakers from India and abroad to explore the region’s culture, cuisine and heritage.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He said the event would also help promote Jammu and Kashmir as a filming destination and strengthen its association with the wider film industry.

Dulloo highlighted the opportunities the film sector could create for local youth in various fields, including photography, direction, technical roles, acting, music and songwriting.

“This is a win-win situation for both the film industry and Jammu and Kashmir. We aim to strengthen this connection year after year,” he said.

The festival aims to bring together filmmakers, artists, cinema professionals and film enthusiasts from India and abroad, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences.

It also seeks to facilitate greater interaction between local talent and the global film community while showcasing Indian and international cinema.

The festival is being organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu and Kashmir, and will continue till September 10. (KNS)
