Decisions of August 5 have been rejected by people of J&K: Vakil

Rafiabad  Nov 12 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference Senior Leader and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that the common masses of J&K have been the biggest losers in the bureaucratic rule prevailing in J&K and urged the central government to restore democracy in J&K without a delay.

Vakil said that while the citizens in the rest of the country enjoy their democratic right to elect their own governments, the people of J&K have been denied their constitutional right to elect a popular government for 4 years now. Apprehensions are growing in the minds of the people that GoI is not serious in returning to democracy in J&K and allowing the people to chose their own representatives.

"It doesn’t bode well for a democracy to deny a region its right to choose their own government while outsourcing the administration to bureaucrats brought in from different states and installed in Jammu and Kashmir, Vakil said.

Addressing the party workers meet in different villages of Rafiabad and Sopore constituencies including Fidarpora, Manzseer, Warpora and several others Vakil said that the decisions taken on August 5 aimed at disempowering the people of J&K have been collectively rejected by the people of the state and that the political parties should reflect the sentiments of the people in their policies and practices.

“Those promising to bring back statehood are only doing so to shift the goal post from Article 370 to Statehood. The Prime Minister and Home Minister have already promised to return statehood to J&K on the floor of the Parliament. All our efforts should be aimed at advocating for restoration of Article 370 and 35-A instead of diluting the issue”, he added.(KNS)
