New Dehli May 12 (KNS): The Indian Premier League (IPL), suspended due to the India-Pakistan military conflict, is likely to resume on May 16 or 17. The final may also be shifted from Kolkata because of rain forecasts.
The ceasefire announced on Saturday opened the door for the tournament’s return. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed on Sunday that discussions are ongoing, with efforts underway to finalize a new schedule soon.
An IPL source revealed that the league will restart with the previously scheduled match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow. A finalised schedule is expected by Monday.
Due to logistical challenges, matches may now be held at only four venues: Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. Delhi and Dharamsala will not host further games, with equipment already removed from these stadiums.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator are expected to remain in Hyderabad, but the final — originally planned for June 1 in Kolkata — could move to Ahmedabad if rain threatens play.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said consultations with franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and state associations will begin soon, with government approval sought before confirming the restart.
Meanwhile, the abandoned Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala could see both teams awarded a point each.
With 16 games left, Gujarat Titans lead the table with 16 points and a superior net run rate, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and others vying for playoff spots.(KNS)
