Srinagar, Dec 07 (KNS): Authorities on Monday suspended mobile internet services across south Kashmir districts in view of fourth phase of DDC polls.

Reports reaching to KNS said that in view of District Development Council (DDC) polls - phase fourth - authorities suspended mobile internet services in south Kashmir districts - Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian and Pulwama - as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order situation.

Sources told KNS that amidst militant attacks on political activists and threats to electorates to stay away from votting, it became imperative for authorities to snap internet services in southern parts.

Pertinently a DDC candidate Anees ul Islam from Apni Party was shot at and injured by unidentified gunmen during third phase of DDC polls in Sagam area of Anantnag district. The attack led shock waves among mainstream political circles amid denial of security cover from Government.

During earlier phases, the service was snapped in few areas of the district, resulting manifold hardships to students appearing in online examinations. "Some students ensured their presence through online mode during last three phases but others who belong to same district couldn't attend due to suspension of internet service in poll areas. However in fourth phase of DDC polls it was decided to cut off the service in the entire district onwards so that students will be treated in uniform manner by examination authorities", an official told KNS.

However brisk polling was underway in southern parts of Kashmir when this report was filed. (KNS)
