Jammu, Aug 27(KNS): The Indian Air Force (IAF) has undertaken extensive relief and rescue operations in response to the flooding caused by continuous rainfall in Jammu and northern Punjab. The operations are being carried out in coordination with the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local administration.
The IAF deployed five Mi-17 helicopters and one Chinook helicopter from bases in the Northern Sector. These helicopters have been engaged in airlifting stranded personnel and delivering relief material. Additional helicopters and transport aircraft remain on standby to support ongoing efforts.
A C-130 transport aircraft was dispatched to Jammu, carrying relief materials and an NDRF team. This deployment aims to strengthen the ongoing rescue and relief work in the flood-affected areas.

In the Pathankot area of Punjab, IAF helicopters evacuated 46 civilians who were stranded due to rising water levels. In addition, more than 750 kilograms of relief material was airdropped to assist the affected local population.
In the Dera Baba Nanak region, the IAF conducted winching operations to rescue 38 Army personnel and 10 BSF personnel. The area has been severely affected by the floods, necessitating urgent evacuation measures.
The IAF continues to monitor the situation and is prepared to carry out additional rescue missions as required. All efforts are being made in coordination with relevant agencies to ensure timely assistance to affected regions.
