Sopore, Jun 24 (KNS) : Incessant rainfall damaged graveyard at Tarzua village in North Kashmir's Sopore town while locals accuse Irrigation and Flood control department and sand maafia for the damage. 

Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) said, that a graveyard adjacent to a Nallah at Tarzua got damaged due to incessant rainfall however, locals accuse Irrigation and Flood control (I&FC) department and sand maafia for the damage. They said that, a flood channel at Alibagh was damaged by some vested interest people however, the issue was brought into the notice of the concern department, but to no avail as they hardly pay any attention to it. 

The Nallah Bank adjecnt to a graveyard had developed a huge damage and people illegally involved in the extraction of sand from Ningli Nallah are responsible for graveyard damage, locals said. 

They said, that the illegal extraction of sand is going unabated and in broad day light with the tacit support of officials who failed to take any concrete action so far. They alleged hand in the glove of the department with the maafia. 

“The concerned department is watching the extraction as a mute-spectator and watching the vandalism helplessly. The regular extraction (illegally) is worrisome as the banks are being eroded ", they said. 

They however appealed to the district administration to rein the elements involved in the illegal extraction of sand and bring the involved to the task.

Meanwhile, an official at Irrigation and Flood control (I&FC) department told KNS, that a restoration process at Alibagh flood channel has been started and will be completed within a weeks time. 

"Have estimated a loss caused to a graveyard and hopefully the matter would be solved at the earliest", official added.(KNS)
