Heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast for J&K in next 16 hours

Srinagar, Sep 2 (KNS): The Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a weather advisory for several districts of Jammu and Kashmir, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next 14 to 16 hours.

According to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rain is expected at many places across Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Doda, Udhampur, Rajouri and Ramban districts. In addition, moderate to heavy rain or brief intense showers are likely in several parts of the Pir Panjal range and southern Kashmir. The districts of Kishtwar, Poonch, Anantnag, Shopian and Kulgam may witness heavy rainfall during this period.

The advisory cautioned of possible cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in some vulnerable areas. People living in low-lying regions, near streams, or along landslide-prone slopes have been advised to remain alert and take precautionary measures.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Authorities have been asked to closely monitor the situation to ensure the safety of residents. Disaster management teams and local administrations have been directed to remain on standby to respond to any emergencies that may arise due to weather-related incidents.

The fresh spell of rainfall comes after the Union Territory recorded one of its wettest August months in more than a century, leading to widespread damage to infrastructure, roads, and agricultural land in several districts. Officials said that while the rainfall deficit in earlier months has been reduced, the current heavy downpours pose new challenges for flood management and relief operations.

The Meteorological Department has urged people to stay updated through official bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas until the weather improves.(KNS).
