Govt directs all SDMs, Tehsildars in Ramban to remain on high alert amid cloudburst threat

Jammu, July 09(KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday directed all Sub district magistrates and Tehsildars of Ramban district to remain on high alert.


"All Sub Divisional Magistrates and their Tehsildars in District Ramban are hereby ordered to remain on high alert. Further SDRF component in the District, along with QRT teams, will also remain in active mode and keep their rescue equipment available,"  reads an advisory issued by the J&K administration a copy of which lies with Kashmir news service (KNS). 

Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police Doda Adbul Qayoom Butt said that a cloudburst occurred at around 4am in Gunti forest area in Thathri resulting in heavy flash floods. "Some vehicles were stuck in mudslides and the highway was blocked for some time, but it has now been restored for traffic movement, SSP Doda said.

He said that the police and civil administration impressed man and machinery to clear the debris of landslides and slush from Highway and made it operational for traffic while work on other lick roads are on.

In view of incessant rains, District Administration Samba also has issued advisory and established helpline besides having advised people not to venture near river banks, till further orders.

"In case of emergency, contact District #Samba Helpline| (24X7) 01923-246915 and 01923-241004," the advisory added.

Meantime the Flood Control Department too has issued advisory and urged people living along banks of River Chenab to adhere to the advisory and take precautions.

"In view of the rise of water in River Chenab, a general alert has been sounded." The advisory said that all areas on river banks are required to be watchful. Public is advised not to venture near river banks while the Flood Control (FC) Deptt is watching the situation regularly, it added.(KNS).
