‘Divert fallow educational funds to help students in this bleak situation

SRINAGAR, May 24 (KNS): Former cabinet Minister and Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir on Monday demanded that the administration must divert fallow educational funds in order to provide smartphones for those students who are unable to afford such costly gadgets.

In a statement issued to Kashmir news service (KNS), Mir stressed that online education has become a new norm to which our students might have to get adapted for a while now.

However, he said that not everyone is born with a silver spoon in his mouth. There exist a huge number of students who belong to poor families and cannot afford smartphones.

“The possession of a smartphone has become highly imperative for every single student who wishes to continue his/her studies without any impediment. However, the government must acknowledge the fact that not every student is in a position to buy a smartphone. Therefore, it becomes the moral obligation of the administration to provide smartphones to this necessitous section of our youth,” he remarked.

He asserted that multiple funds allocated to these educational institutes have remained unused due to the current pandemic and the same fund should be used to provide smartphones to these underprivileged youths in order to give them an equal opportunity to stay connected with their teachers and studies without any disparity,” he suggested.(KNS)
