Tangmarg November 04 (KNS):  J&K Forest Department today conducted a mega plantation drive on degraded open forest land under CAMPA scheme in Compartment s32 adjoining Village Panchayat Hamchipora, Nowgam and Dudroo Khag SPSP Range Forest Division Tangmarg. 

Different stakeholders were involved in the plantation drive which include local panchayat members of Nowgam , Eco-clubs/ school children, Police and Revenue ,and officers /officials of Forest and allied departments.

Eleven thousand (11,000) conifer plants of Kail & Deodar species and 4000 broadleaved plants such as Fraxinus (Ash), Ulmus (Elm) and 13000 grass patches are being planted in the area of 20 Hactres of treatment.An area of 05 ha has been specifically kept for pasture Development in the area. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Sarvesh Rai (IFS) Addl. PCCF CAMPA informed that the mega plantation drive is part of Green J&K Drive 2022-23 launched by Honourable Lt. Governor J&k with a target of 1.35 Cr saplings to be planted and around 95 lacs low-cost planting interventions of greening such as seed balls, patch sowing and dibbling of seeds. 

The forest Department focus is on the rehabilitation of Degraded forests and the area for rehabilitation has been doubled for the year 2022_23.The plantation drives are being carried out with involvement of locals & school children to give an awareness about the importance of forests for the survival of mankind.
 
The plantation drive was attended by Mr.T. Rabi Kumar APCCF Kashmir and Zubair Ahmad Shah Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Circle ,Mr.Showkat Anmad Kuthoo DFO Tangmarg besides frontline staff of Forest Department, including RO Beerwah and RO Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Bhat Was also present the occasion.
