Srinagar, Jul 14 (KNS): The Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu and Kashmir, has issued prohibition orders against two paneer manufacturing units in Talangam area of Pulwama district for gross violation of sanitary and hygiene norms.
An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Acting on a specific complaint, a team of food safety officers inspected the units and found them using non-food-grade plastic material, lacking adequate pest control measures, and operating without proper temperature-controlled storage facilities for perishable milk products — all in violation of Schedule IV of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
Two paneer samples were collected from the premises and sent to an NABL-accredited notified food laboratory for testing of quality and safety parameters prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

"The prohibition orders have been issued directing both establishments to cease manufacturing activities with immediate effect. Operations will resume only after all deficiencies are rectified and compliance with Schedule IV requirements is ensured," an FDA official said.
The FDA has appealed to consumers to report any suspected food safety violations on the toll-free helpline number 104 or through email at cfsjandk.fnd@jk.gov.in.
Notably, The crackdown is part of the FDA's ongoing drive to enforce food safety standards and protect public health across the Union Territory. (KNS)
