Srinagar, Oct 24 (KNS): J&K Peoples Conference President and Handwara MLA Sajad Gani Lone on Saturday strongly castigated the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's remarks to the media after his meeting with the Lieutenant Governor LG Sinha. He said the CM had publicly told his party legislators not to pester him for a ministerial berth.
Lone described the remarks as "a contemptuous and disdainful way" of addressing elected members.
"I honestly can't believe that these MLAs are comfortable with such belittling and humiliating remarks. If you are unable to accommodate them in the cabinet, you can spare them from public humiliation," he said.
He acknowledged that the matter is internal to the party concerned and said he would ordinarily have stayed out of it.
"But there is always a spillover. You may direct the derision at your own members, but it invariably belittles the political class,” he asserted.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Lone asked how such legislators face the people who elected them. "I wonder how these elected members face their electors when they know they are treated like unworthy and incapable school boys."
Under the title "The Cult of Self," Lone turned to Tasha Eurich's book on self-awareness.
"Somebody desperately needs to read it. Somebody is certainly self-deluded," he remarked while quoting her observation that "the least competent people are usually the most confident in their abilities."
Lone ended with a direct appeal to fellow NC legislators, whom he described as acting "like bonded labour" and seeming "immune to humiliation." "Spare the political class from this belittlement," he said. "We deserve better."(KNS)
