Srinagar, Oct 24 (KNS): Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Saturday said an additional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) block has been made operational at Lal Ded Hospital, while another such facility is expected to become functional at Jhelum Valley College Hospital in Rainawari next month.
Labroo said the additional block was established through district-level funding in coordination with Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar to address the growing demand for specialised neonatal care.
"The existing NICU was facing increasing pressure due to the growing number of newborns requiring intensive care. We decided to establish an additional block, and I am pleased that the facility has become functional within a short period," Labroo said.
He said Lal Ded Hospital caters to patients from Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir, placing considerable pressure on its existing neonatal intensive care facilities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
During an inspection of the newly established block, Labroo, accompanied by the Principal of GMC Srinagar and other officials, reviewed its functioning.
He said newborns had already been admitted to the additional unit and were receiving specialised medical treatment.
The Deputy Commissioner further said a NICU would be established at Jhelum Valley College Hospital in Rainawari, where such a facility is currently unavailable.
He said the proposed unit was expected to be completed by next month, strengthening neonatal healthcare services in Srinagar.
Labroo said the expansion of critical care facilities would help reduce pressure on existing infrastructure and improve access to timely medical treatment for newborns requiring intensive care. (KNS)
