Empowered Women Can Transform J&K: LG Sinha

 Shopian, July 12 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the valedictory function of a women’s vocational training course at Army Goodwill School Balapur in Shopian, where he felicitated women who completed skill development programs across South Kashmir.

A total of 1,481 women, including 125 from the recently concluded course, received vocational and life enhancement training under the joint initiative of the Indian Army, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Vikas evam Sewa Sansthan, and Project Toha Social. The training was conducted at six centres—Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Budgam, Anantnag, and Pampore.

LG Sinha praised the collaborative efforts of the Army and partnering organisations for empowering women across rural Kashmir. He especially appreciated the role of Ms. Monica Pal Bharti and her team in implementing the program.

He highlighted the transformative impact of women’s empowerment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, saying, “Women-led development is central to defeating social evils like terrorism and drug abuse, and building a peaceful and prosperous J&K.”

LG called for regular follow-ups to support the women in establishing and scaling their businesses. He also stressed closing the gender gap in entrepreneurship, particularly in rural areas, and promoting women's leadership across sectors.

He applauded the Indian Army for not only safeguarding national security but also playing a key role in social upliftment through community initiatives.

Senior Army and civil officials, including GOC 15 Corps Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, GOC Victor Force Maj Gen Dhananjay Joshi, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, and DIG SKR Javid Iqbal Matoo, were present at the event along with a large gathering of youth and community members.
