District De-Addiction Centre inaugurated in Bandipora

 

 
Bandipora, Feb 21(KNS): Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed, IAS, today inaugurated District De-Addiction Centre, Bandipora with all facilities and equipment.
 
The DDAC was inaugurated in the presence of Nodal Officer, Coordinations/DPO, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, JKAS, Joint Director Planning, Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad, District Social Welfare Officer, Bandipora, Mr. Ubaid ul Khazir JKAS, ASP Bandipora, Mr. Ashiq Hussain Tak, JKPS, Dy. SP Hqrs, Bandipora, Mr. Shafat Mohammad, JKPS , Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Bandipora and Other Sectoral Officers.
 
The facility is set up by District Administration, Bandipora, Social Welfare Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir under National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India and is managed by implementing agency - J&K Students Welfare Mission. 
 
The centre is aimed to provide an array of facilities like admission/shelter, food, library, stress management, identification, awareness, counselling, stabilization, education, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, whole person recovery and drug demand reduction. It will also facilitate indoor patients and outdoor patient treatment facilities to the patients/addicts. 
 
The DC bandipora also visited different sections of centre including Adminstration Block, Medical Block, Counselling room, Ward Rooms, Office, Pantry, Drug Store, Pharmacy, Recreational Facility, library and took a view of arrangements for patients and attendants. He also discussed the services which will be provided by the centre like extra curricular and recreational activities.
 
He directed the staff to start work as soon as possible and make admission open. He also directed the staff to work regularly and maintain proper records of patients.
 
DC Bandipora directed the officials to organize awareness camps to motivate the patients to come forward and work in coordination to eradicate this evil crime from the District.
 
One of the staffers said that we are providing all these services free of cost and there are separate arrangements for male and female patients like Counsellors for female and male addicts and their aim is to make bandipora drug free District. "We will treat the patient till he realizes that he has now become capable of being associated with his family and friends well. DDAC will focus on Whole Person Recovery (WPR) strategy and would make its best" Manager DDAC, Rehana Akhter said. 
 
While addressing the drug de-addiction, the doctor said that it is a long process and it needs a lot of effort and patience by the patient and his family. She also talks about various steps of treatment that will be provided by them for patients like behavioral therapy and withdrawal therapy as drug addiction can't be Withdrawn instantly. 
 
On the occasion Ms. Nandini Rawat, PMU, State Coordinator, J&K, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in her speech talked about structural strategies of DDAC including Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts (IRCA), Outreach and Drop in Centres (ODIC) and Community Based Peer Led Intervention (CPLI).
 
Joint Director Planning, Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmed praises the DC Bandipora and highlights the major and innovative works being conducted by the district in this regard. He also talks about unemployment, lack of private job opportunities which accelerates the participation of youth into drug addiction. He also highlighted and appreciates the implementing agency - JKSWM for its great role and dedication in every aspect of the society.
 
Dy. SP Hqrs, Bandipora, Mr. Shafat Mohammad, JKPS, highlighted the needs of DDAC and assured all possible support from police in this regard. A warm vote of thanks was presented to all the guests and officers by Miss Sameena Shafi, Coordinator, JKSWM.(KNS).
