Delimitation Commission draft report violates constitutional norms, says JKPM

Anantnag, Dec 22 (KNS): J&K Peoples Movement Vice President solicitor Syed Iqbal Tahir has said that the party rank and file has rejected the draft recommendation of the delimitation commission.

In a statement issued to KNS, Iqbal Tahir said that draft exercise in its entirety is violative of the constitution and aimed at disempowering Kashmiris. He alleged that the commission has followed the political agenda of the Bhartiya Janata Party and has ignored the 2011 census. He said that as per the 2011 census more seats should be allocated to the Kashmir region.

He further said that the agenda of BJP and RSS is to pitch people against each other and delimitation in J&K has been a longstanding plan for the BJP.  “BJP has often raised the bogey of underrepresentation of one region, however in reality this oft-repeated claims of underrepresentation do not withstand scrutiny,” Iqbal Tahir said.

He further alleged that the real game plan is to install a government in J&K which will legitimise the illegal & unconstitutional decisions of August 2019. (KNS)
