Polling concludes peacefully in both constituencies

Srinagar, Dec 05 (KNS): The re-poll for District Development Council (DDC) elections in twin constituencies of North Kashmir, falling in Drugmulla Kupwara and Hajin Bandipora smoothly concluded on Monday with an overall voter turnout of 32.73 % in Drugmulla and 53% in Hajin Bandipora. 

According to the official data, 32.73% per cent votes had been recorded in Drugmulla Kupwara, while bit higher than Kupwara, 53 polling has been recorded in Hajin Bandipora. 
 
Amid cold conditions and high security arrangements, the voting began on early 07 AM today and lasted upto 2 PM in the duo DDC constituencies.

The Drugmulla DDC constituency is spread over 42 polling stations with 32 thousand voter's, out of which 5624 male and 5109 female voters exercised their franchise. 

Similarly DDC constituency Hajin Bandipora had 28 polling station with 16000 thousand eligible voters, out which 8690 casted their vote today. 

In Drugmulla Kupwara constituency, 10 candidates are in fray to secure the seat, similarly 5 candidates are in fray in Hajin Bandipora.

An official said that the counting will be held on December 8 and the poll process shall conclude on December 12.

The sufficient arrangements were made by the administration for smooth conduct of elections, thus passed the poll day without any untoward incident.

Talking to DC Kupwara, he said elections were peacefully conducted on all 42 polling stations with good number of women electoral. He said rought 32 percent voting has been recorded while as final outcome of the day is yet to come.

Despite braving cold, people came out to vote. Now all the ballot boxes have been deposited in strong rooms, later the strong room will be sealed till the counting day, which is 8th December, he added.

The DDC elections took place in Jammu and Kashmir in December 2020. However, the counting of votes was withheld in these two seats -- Drugmulla in Kupwara and Hajin-A in Bandipora -- due to the disputed qualification of two candidates. 

Later, the state election commission (SEC) declared the polling in these constituencies as void, cancelling the candidature of Soomia Sadaf and Shazia Aslam, citing wrong information about the place of birth by the PoK-origin candidates. (KNS)
