Srinagar, Dec 01 (KNS): State Election Commissioner K K Sharma said that the phase two of the District Development Councils (DDC) concluded with 49 percent voting and the elections held smoothly in the J&K Union Territory.

According to news agency—Kashmir News Service. (KNS), addressing a press conference , Sharma said that phase two elections for DDCs remained Peaceful and the total voting percentage remained at 48.62 percent.

He also said that,Jammu recorded 65.54 voting while as Kashmir recorded 33.34 per cent voting.In Kashmir region, Bandipora recorded highest number of voting percentage 69.66 percent while as in Jammu,Poonch District recorded 75.07 Percent of voting.

Meanwhile he also said that, ongoing DDC Elections will pave a way to devlopment at grassroot level and it is the new columnal of Governance “Each district will have a separate DDC with chairman and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will be either KAS or an IAS officer.

"The DDCs will have to deal with three F’s—Funds, Functions and Functionaries and decision making body will be the elected representatives only",he added(KNS).
