Srinagar, Nov 6 (KNS): The Department of Posts has extended the working hours of the iconic Floating Post Office at Nehru Park on Dal Lake, allowing customers and tourists to avail postal services from 9 am to 9 pm.
The decision follows an encouraging public response to the extended working hours at Lal Chowk Head Post Office, which is also operating from 9 am to 9 pm.
Chief Postmaster General, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, Col Sagar Hanuman Singh, accompanied by Director Postal Services Prateek and Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division, Adam Mohi U Din, visited the Floating Post Office to review facilities and interact with customers, tourists and local residents.
Officials said the decision was taken in view of the considerable footfall at Nehru Park and growing demand for postal services beyond regular office hours.

Director Postal Services Prateek said the initiative was part of continued efforts to improve service delivery and provide greater flexibility to customers.
He said the Floating Post Office, besides serving as a postal facility, remained a distinctive tourist attraction on Dal Lake.
The extended hours would particularly benefit houseboat operators, tourists, local residents and visitors who require postal services during evening hours, he added.
Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Adam Mohi U Din said the positive response to extended working hours at Lal Chowk Head Post Office had encouraged the department to introduce similar arrangements at the Floating Post Office.
He said the department was also exploring the possibility of extending working hours at more post offices across the region in the coming days. (KNS)
