Crime Branch, JKP, MHA organise UT-level anti-human trafficking conference in Srinagar

Srinagar, August 21(KNS): In a significant move to strengthen the response against human trafficking, the Crime Branch Headquarters of Jammu & Kashmir Police, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, organized a one-day UT-level conference on Anti-Human Trafficking at Tagore Hall, Srinagar.

The conference aimed at raising awareness among students and the general public regarding the growing threat of human trafficking, especially in the context of the digital era. The event witnessed the participation of a wide spectrum of stakeholders including senior police officers, judicial officers, government departments, NGOs, academicians, and students.

S.J.M. Gillani, IPS, Special DG Coordination, PHQ J&K, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of a collective societal response in supporting the police and law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking. “J&K Police is actively working on this issue. Society must also come forward to create awareness and assist law enforcement in curbing this menace,” he appealed.

Earlier, Sujit Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch J&K, formally welcomed the guests and participants. The event was held under the guidance of DIG Crime Branch J&K and overall supervision of the IGP Crime J&K.
The conference was attended by several dignitaries including Alok Kumar, IPS, ADGP and Director Fire & Emergency Services J&K, Shri Uttam Chand, IPS, IGP Headquarters PHQ, senior officers from various departments such as Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Labour, as well as representatives from BSF, NGOs, nodal officers of Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs), and students from Kashmir University’s Faculty of Law and other local institutions.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Noted experts in the field of human trafficking, including Rajesh Mani, Consultant for India for Children, and Ravi Kant, Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Founder of Shakti Vahini, delivered impactful sessions through lectures and presentations. They offered critical insights and practical strategies for prevention, rehabilitation, and legal recourse.

The conference provided a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, deliberate on challenges, and explore collaborative strategies to effectively combat human trafficking in the region.

Mementoes were presented to the Chief Guest and distinguished speakers in recognition of their contributions. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Mohammad Fiesel Qureshi, JKPS, SSP SO to IGP Crime, who extended gratitude to all guests and participants for their active involvement in the important cause.(KNS).
