Locals allege Administration Negligence, Demands investigation in Project Cost

Kupwara 30 April (KNS): The Irrigation Dam, sarbund at Rangwar Lalpora area of North kashmir's Kupwara District, has become a cause of worry, as it is posing a threat to a number of villages situated alongside its periphery. 

According to Kashmir News Service Correspondent, the Dam was constructed to provide irrigation to thousands of kanals of farmland of the area and was to be commissioned this season, but it has been leaking since sometime and today crashed. 

The locals of the affected village have also alleged that despite them apprising the authorities of their woes and conducting protests, they have been left in the lurch by the administration.

The Dam was about to provide an irrigation facility to the Agricultural land of Lalpora area of Kupwara this year, as the water was filled in the dam, it started shown cracks, a villager said to Kashmir News Service.

"There has been the deployment of only two casual labourers from Administration end which are unable to do anything as the dam needs the attention of technical team so to avoid any untoward incident in the area", he added 

The Farmers residing alongside the periphery of Dam demands it's immediate repairing and investigation into it as according to them the dam was constructed at a cost of Rs 3.70 crore which has not fully executed on this Project.

Meanwhile, Chief Engineer irrigation and Flood Control, Iftikar Kakroo said that since this Storage has not been fully commissioned yet and there has been an issue in only Joint of Outlet Pipeline for this we have to get all the water out of the dam which will be done in Shortest Possible time.

"The way this tank is built has very little chances of leaking, it needs little repairing at some places which will be done soon", he added.(KNS)
