CLUJ Tech-Talk on restoring Eco System

Jammu June 06:(KNS) Department of Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu organised an online interactive discussion on Restoring Ecosystem: A Major concern for the student and teaching fraternity dedicated to the theme “Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”. This open discussion aimed  to bring together key stakeholders to spread awareness   among   students   and   faculty about the importance of conserving the environment and negate the impact of human activity on the environment. The theme, Ecosystem Restoration as tackling climate change and the loss of species is crucial to the restoration of ecosystems. About 150 students and teaching faculty from Constituent Colleges, PGI Schools of CLUJ and other colleges participated in the event. Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu inaugurated the event .He opined that it is remarkable that the people in Vedic times regarded Nature and environment in a holistic manner and revered each of its constituents and entities by carefully preserving them. It is a day to remind ourselves across the globe to respect and acknowledge everything that the environment has given us and not take it for granted. He further stressed that the day also gives an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by communities, enterprises and individuals in preserving and enhancing the environment.

 

Dr. Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare CLUJ in her welcome address exhorted that the theme of World Environment Day 2021 ‘Reimagine, Recreate, Restore' is based on Ecosystem Restoration, which is a 10-year plan to work on stopping environmental degradation. This day provides an opportunity for all humans to pause, reflect and take responsible steps to preserve and enhance the environment.

 

Dr. CM Seth Retd IFS and a renowned environmentalist of Jammu and Kashmir and Mr. Om Prakash Vidyarthi IFS a noted environmental campaigner and writer were the keynote speakers at the event. Mr. Vidhyarti stressed that our ancestors had realised long time ago that the real wealth is that of nature and satisfaction can only be achieved by having a healthy environment. He stressed that Animals and birds are part of nature and environment and the Vedic culture has mentioned about their characteristics and activities and have desired their welfare. this day to remind ourselves across the globe to respect and acknowledge everything that the environment has given us and not take it for granted. He further stressed that the day gives an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by communities, enterprises and individuals in preserving and enhancing the environment.    

Dr. CM Seth  dwelt on the need for  communion with Nature and how Humans impact the physical environment in many ways: overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation. Mr. CM Seth said that for too long, we have been exploiting and destroying our planet’s ecosystems and now there was a need for  communion with Nature . The discussion was followed by a question answer session wherein the students put forth their queries.

Dean Academic Affairs, CLUJ, Controller Examinations, Deans of Faculties, Principals of constituent colleges ,Coordinators of several wings and Assistant Deans also graced the event.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Banpreet Kour, Associate Dean, Students Welfare, CLUJ and Dr. Kuldeep Raina, Cultural Coordinator, CLUJ. Dr. Revika Arora, Cultural Coordinator, anchored the event while Dr. Mansi dean gave a formal vote of thanks. (KNS)
