Centre to Convene Meeting of State and UT Cooperation Ministers on Monday

New Delhi, June 28 (KNS): The Central Government will hold a key meeting of Cooperation Ministers from all States and Union Territories on Monday, July 1, to discuss strategies for strengthening the cooperative sector across the country.

The meeting, titled ‘Manthan Baithak’, will be chaired by Union Minister for Cooperation, Amit Shah, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

An official statement said the meeting will focus on major government initiatives, including the formation of 2 lakh new Multi-purpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), as well as dairy and fisheries cooperatives aimed at enhancing last-mile service delivery in rural areas.

A key highlight will be the review of the world’s largest grain storage scheme under the cooperative model, designed to bolster food security and support farmers.

The meeting will serve as a platform to evaluate progress, exchange ideas, and chart a coordinated path forward in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Sahkar Se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation).

The role of states in three new National Multi-State Cooperative Societies — National Cooperative Export Ltd (NCEL), National Cooperative Organics Ltd (NCOL), and Bharatiya Beej Sahkari Samiti Ltd (BBSSL) — will also be discussed.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Participants will deliberate on the proposed White Revolution 2.0, with a focus on integrating sustainability and circular economy principles in the dairy sector. Discussions will also include procurement support prices for pulses and maize under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

Digital transformation in the cooperative sector will be a key agenda, especially the computerization of PACS and Registrar Cooperative Society (RCS) offices in states and UTs. The utility of the National Cooperative Database for effective policy planning will be a special focus.

The meeting will also address human resource development, training, and capacity building, particularly in light of the newly established Tribhuvan Sahkari University.

Other topics include financial strengthening of the cooperative sector, resolving issues related to cooperative banks, operationalizing the Shared Services Entity (SSE) for State and District Central Cooperative Banks, and the formation of an umbrella organization for Urban Cooperative Banks.

The event will witness participation from Cooperation Ministers, Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and Secretaries of Cooperation Departments from all States and Union Territories.(KNS)
