Srinagar, Dec 5 (KNS): The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) on Friday convened an Executive Committee meeting in Srinagar, attended by Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javid Rana, Advisor to Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, and Joint Director Tourism Kashmir Waseem Raja.
CCIK President Tariq Rashid Ghani welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted pressing concerns over the ongoing slowdown in Kashmir’s tourism sector. He emphasized the need for renewed promotional campaigns, particularly in South Indian states, to attract more visitors and revive the industry.
The Chamber strongly objected to the Rs 500 entry fee at Aru Valley, stating it may discourage tourists and impact local businesses. Ghani also raised the issues faced by tourism taxi operators who are burdened with bank loans, urging the government to consider an interest waiver or relief package.
Ghani proposed organizing winter festivals and promotional events at major tourist destinations including Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Pahalgam to boost footfall and enhance Kashmir’s visibility in national markets.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Tourism is the backbone of Kashmir’s economy, and it requires timely support and promotion. We request the government to reconsider the Aru Valley entry fee and provide relief to taxi operators. With focused promotion and events at major destinations, we can revive tourist confidence and send out a positive message across the country,” Ghani said during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by President SKAL Kashmir Abdul Wahid, TTIG Chairman Akram Siah, HBOA Chairman Manzoor Paktoon, Baber Chowdary, Jan Mohammad, President Shere-Khass Office Bearers, and several other Executive Committee members.
Minister Javid Rana assured the Chamber that the concerns raised would receive positive consideration and appropriate action.
Ghani thanked the officials and noted that CCIK has recently held a series of meetings with the administration, including the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, to address issues related to trade and tourism.(KNS)
