Bro setups Bailey bridge, traffic restored on Srinagar-Jammu highway

Srinagar, Jan 16 (KNS): The Border Roads Organization (BRO) today completed setting of Bailey  bridge near Kela Morh to restore connectivity along the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar between the twin capital cities.

According to KNS correspondent, Chief Engineer BRO I K Jaggi said, " All the vechicles would be allowed to ply on the bridge. However loaded trucks should have to carry below 40 tonne load, more than that will endanger the bridge."

Responding to a question, he said, " One of the constraints was weather, second was people were assembling around site and third was we had to manage supplies from six different places as road is not with us"He commended his officials for the job.

A portion of the highway sank near Kela Morh in Ramban district after a concrete retaining wall of a bridge collapsed on Sunday evening.

The bailey bridge was launched by BRO, as an interim measure, to restore connectivity between Srinagar and Jammu.

Earlier on Thursday KNS Correspondent Ajmul Amin on spot had reported  that It will take two to three days after taking to concerned officials.

He added that it will provide relief to the hundreds of vehicles carrying essentials to cross into the valley.

Officials of National Highway Authority of India, the road construction and maintaining agency had earlier said that the "Repairing by concrete filling and settling of the concrete for making it (highway) motorable may take approximately 10 days," (KNS)
