Baramulla, Aug 07 (KNS) : Patients visiting the District Hospital Baramulla in North Kashmir faced a tough time today as there was no water supply in the hospital.

Despite tall claims of the state government to improve the health sector in the Kashmir, patients visiting District hospital Baramula complained of poor hygienic conditions in the hospital.

Sources told the news agency - Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the erratic water supply in washroom is causing grave inconvenience to patients and their attendants, who are forced to use drinking water, or carry cans of water from home, for washing purposes.

An attendant told KNS over the phone, that the washrooms were stinking and patients were using bottled water in the toilets for their needs.

He said there was no water supply since Sunday morning and despite requests, there was no respite for them.

Many other patients also spoke of similar experiences, while speaking to KNS. "Women patients and attendants have been the worst sufferers and toilets in the hospitals are supposed to be cleaner and hygienic but it's other way around in the hospital", they said.

Pertinently, the district hospital Baramulla caters to thousands of patients from across the large area of Baramulla district every day, but when it comes to sanitation, there is lot to be desired.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent GMC Baramulla despite repeated attempts did not answer the phone calls of this correspondent. (KNS)
