Srinagar, June 09:(KNS)  Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party on Wednesday organized its first Women’s Wing Virtual meeting in which Party’s women representatives from all the districts of Kashmir division highlighted the role played by women during the pandemic.

The meeting was presided over by Party’s Provincial President Kashmir Mohammad Ashraf Mir along with Media Advisor Farooq Andrabi. Over 25 women representatives of the Party including Panchayat representatives of various levels participated in the meeting and deliberated on the role and responsibilities of the women in the society.

In a statement issued here, Mohammad Ashraf Mir termed the meeting as a success and said that the issues raised by women members were highly meticulous and thought provoking.

He said that it was unanimously agreed that the role of women folk during the pandemic has remained exceptionally commendable and the sacrifices made by them are equally colossal.

“The women-folk have served as frontline workers in this vicious pandemic, some even continued to work from home while others preserved their role as house-makers. Such versatility is a clear manifestation of women power which I along with my Party colleagues have always extolled,” he observed.

Mir said that during the meeting the participants also raised serious concerns over the hazards faced by frontline women warriors including Anganwari workers and Asha workers, among which recently, Khalida Begum hailing from Baramulla sacrificed her life while raising awareness for Covid vaccination in her town. They said that the government must provide such women warriors with necessary PPE kits while they deliver their services on ground zero and cover all of them under the government insurance scheme.

“The members also stressed that the government must take appropriate measures for sick and pregnant women especially in the remote areas who may be facing medical emergencies during the pandemic. It was also suggested that special medical task forces must be pressed into service to face such kinds of eventualities,” he said.

During the meeting, the participants demanded a women specific relief package that will cater to the working women who lost their jobs during the pandemic and are presently in need of dire support from the government.

He said that all the members thanked the Party’s leadership especially the Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari for encouraging the Party leaders to engage in virtual meetings to discuss and deliberate on important social issues.(KNS)
