Anjuman Auqaf aghast over continuous closure of Jama Masjid

Srinagar, Dec 03 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has expressed resentment over the continuous closure of historic Jama Masjid Srinagar for Friday prayers.

The Anjuman in a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), said that once again the people who came from various parts of the Valley were barred from offering Friday prayers at Jama Masjid.

The statement reads that it is for the 43rd time this year and 17 consecutive Fridays since Friday prayers have not been allowed the Masjid.

It reads that the closure of Jama Masjid has hurt the sentiments of the people of Kashmir, adding that when all the places of worship of the followers of different religions have been opened for the performance of their religious rights, why Jama Masjid has been closed. 

The Anjuman has stressed upon opening of the Jama Masjid and releasing of its head Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq who continues to be under house arrest since 5 August 2019. (KNS)
