ANC demands immediate release of Journalist Sajad Gul

Srinagar, Jan 10 (KNS): J&K Awami National Conference has demanded immediate release of journalist Sajad Gul, urging authorities to stop indulging in such unwarranted practises that run contrary to the lines drawn under the Constitution of the country.

Journalist Sajad Gul is pursuing specialised studies in media and a career in journalism which should be respected. This was stated by ANC Sr VP Muzzafar Shah in a press statement issued in Srinagar while reacting to the illegal & unlawful detention of Sajad Gul.

ANC Sr VP denouncing such actions has urged the authorities to immediately drop the alleged charges against the young journalistic stating that the FIR against him amounts to criminalisation of free reportage and journalistic work guaranteed within the framework of the Constitution.

Muzzafar Shah has expressed serious concern over continuous harassment and threats of legal action against journalists in Kashmir by the police authorities, terming these threats, summons and arrests of the media persons as a direct attack on the freedom of press & investigative reporting. The LG administration needs to put a stop to these repressive methods deployed in Kashmir, he said.

ANC Sr VP urges the LG Shri Manoj Sinha to intervene in this case & order immediate release and dropping of charges against Sajad Gul that will reassure & create an environment free from threats, summons and arrests for the journalists operating in kashmir under very trying times. (KNS)
