Srinagar, Jan 03 (KNS): At least 50 Shi’ite protesters were detained by police after minor clashes in several parts of the city during demonstration against the Saudi dynasty rule for executing Sheikh Nimr Al Nimr.
Shiite members Sunday held protests in Lalchowk’s Press Enclave, Zadibal, Rainawari and Saidakdal localities in the city, with demonstrators chanting slogans against the Saudi regime.
Sheikh Nimr al Nimr, the prominent Shiite leader of Qatif in Saudi Arabia who spoke against the family rule of the regime in the Gulf country, was among the 47 Muslim men executed by the regime.
Eyewitnesses said that minor clashes erupted between the protesters and police, deployed to thwart any sectarian tensions, near Shah Masjid in Zadibal and Rainwari. Police resorted to shelling and detained around 50 protesters.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports Imran Ansari has condemned in strong words the state murder of Sheikh Ayatollah Baqir Nimr al Nimr by “tyrant regime of Saud family, the exporter, supporter and financer of terrorism in world.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
In a statement to KNS, Ansari said that “Nimr’s only crime was peaceful protest against tyrant rule of Saudi family regime devoid of any respect for human rights.
“This murder is a deliberate attempt on the behest and orders of anti Muslim Islamophobic Zionism to create unrest and animosity among peaceful Muslims. We mourn the martyrdom of Ayatollah Nimr and offer condolence to whole Muslim world and his family. We are sure he was the real follower of Ahale-bait Rasool (SAW) and his abode is Jannat al Firdous,” the Shia leader said.
Station House Officer (SHO), Rashid Ahmad while talking to KNS said that 30-35 protesters have been taken under preventive custody. “Police have detained almost 35 demonstrators who were protesting against the killing of their Jurist and later tried to march towards the city centre Lal Chowk,” Rashid said.
