Sharma Lays Foundation for ₹98.60 Lakh Border Area Beautification Project

 JAMMU, JANUARY 16: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and Transport, Satish Sharma, today laid the foundation stone for a comprehensive Beautification and Infrastructure Development Project in the Samwan border area of Thanger–Kachrial panchayat, within the Chhamb Constituency.

 
With an estimated cost of ?98.60 lakh, the initiative, spearheaded by the Tourism Department, aims to convert the locale into a developed public and recreational space while significantly upgrading civic amenities for both residents and visitors.
 
Addressing the gathering, Minister Sharma stated the project underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive and balanced development, with a dedicated focus on border and rural regions. He emphasized that such development transcends physical infrastructure, serving to restore confidence, dignity, and opportunity for local communities.
 
"The project has been meticulously designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and the aesthetics of the area," Sharma said.
 
The scope of work encompasses extensive safety and amenity upgrades, including:
 
 Installation of chain-link fencing for security and demarcation.

Development of resting and recreational zones featuring five gazebos and high-quality steel benches.
· Comprehensive land development, including earth filling, removal of wild growth, and terrain dressing.
· Construction of a public toilet complex and two main entrance gates to regulate access and improve site layout.
 
The Minister noted that such infrastructure would not only improve the visual appeal of the border belt but also stimulate local tourism, foster community interaction, and provide a dignified public space, particularly for youth and families. He added that the Tourism Department is actively identifying and developing new destinations across Jammu & Kashmir to diversify tourism and extend economic benefits to the grassroots level.
 
Reiterating the government's development agenda, Sharma assured all projects would be executed with strict adherence to quality standards and timelines. He directed the executing agencies to maintain transparency, accountability, and community participation throughout implementation.
 
The event was attended by senior officers from the Tourism Department, Public Works (R&B), district administration, elected representatives, and local residents.
