Srinagar, May 29 (KNS): In a remarkable achievement, 22 Indian Army mountaineers successfully reached the summit of Mt Everest (8,848 metres) on May 27, 2025, as part of the Silver Jubilee Everest Expedition, organised by the Army’s Adventure Wing.
The expedition, led by Lt Col Bhanoo Pathak with Maj Mehak Mehta and Maj Anirudh Yadav, was commanded by Lt Col Manoj Joshi. This climb commemorates 40 years since the Army’s first successful Everest expedition in 1985, celebrating a legacy of adventure and excellence.
The 32-member team, including a Medical Officer and a Nursing Assistant, left India on April 12 and reached Everest Base Camp on April 23. By 5:00 AM on May 27, the team — consisting of 3 officers, 6 Junior Commissioned Officers, and 13 Non-Commissioned Officers, with the support of 28 Nepali Sherpas — stood atop the world’s highest peak, proudly hoisting the national flag.
Among the climbers, Hav Tundup Namgail of 5 Ladakh Scouts made a record ascent in just four hours, showcasing incredible stamina and determination.
This successful mission also coincided with Kami Rita Sherpa’s 31st Everest summit, marking a historic day in global mountaineering. The Indian Army’s expedition stands as a symbol of courage, discipline, and teamwork, inspiring the nation and honoring its enduring legacy.(KNS)
