Police says it was accidental firing, both are stable


Srinagar, Apr 07 (KNS): Two persons were injured after an altercation broke out between army and civilians in Jamia Masjid Handwara, when some youth objected to video shooting by army during Zuhr prayers.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that a team of Army’s 21 RR unit had gone to Jamia Masjid Handwara to shoot video of Zuhr prayers, however, some people objected to it.

He said that this led to an altercation between the Army and the locals there, during which two youth sustained bullet injuries.

The official said that they were immediately taken a nearby hospital, from where they were shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment.

Meanwhile, medical superintendent Handwara, Nisar Ahmad said that two namely Mujeeb-ur-Rahman (22) and Abdul Ahad Mir (24) were received by the hospital authorities with both having injuries in left thigh.

He said that they have been referred to Srinagar, however, both are out of danger.

Meanwhile, Police on said that the firing incident in which two people were injured in Handwara was accidental fire.

Superintendent of Police Handwara, Sandeep Gupta told KNS that two people suffered injuries in the accidental firing.

He said that both the injured were stable and were shifted to Srinagar hospital for treatment.

Police said that further investigation into the incident was going on. (KNS)
