“Pahalgam Is an Emotion, Tourism Is Our Lifeline,” Says Asif Iqbal Burza After Terror Attack

Srinagar, May 29 (KNS): In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Asif Iqbal Burza, Managing Director of Ahad Hotels & Resorts, strongly condemned the incident and called it an act that should never have happened. Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) , Burza extended gratitude to the people across the country for their support and solidarity.

“We condemn the terror attack in the strongest possible words. It was a shameful act that demands the severest condemnation,” Burza told KNS.

He expressed heartfelt thanks to citizens from across India who reached out, enquiring about the well-being of locals and expressing their desire to visit the region. “Pahalgam is not just a destination — it’s an emotion, a memory, and a feeling. It belongs as much to us as it does to every person who has visited or plans to visit,” he said.

Burza highlighted that tourism in Kashmir, often perceived as glamorous, is actually the primary livelihood for thousands of families in Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and other tourist destinations. “For us, tourism is not a luxury — it is bread and butter, a means of sustenance for many households,” he added.

He appreciated the recent visit of the Chief Minister to Pahalgam, describing it as a significant morale booster for local stakeholders.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“What bigger message can there be when the Chief Minister himself visits Pahalgam with his family, cycles through the town, and interacts personally with tourists? It shows the world that Pahalgam is open and safe for visitors,” Burza remarked.

According to him, the Chief Minister spent considerable time with tourists, inquiring about their experiences and stay, which sent a positive signal. “It was very encouraging for us as stakeholders.”

Burza also mentioned the overwhelming response from people outside the valley. “So many people called, expressing their intent to visit. Recently, a 60-member delegation came, sat with us, saw the situation for themselves, and more such groups are scheduled to arrive,” he said.

He pointed out how even locals with no direct connection to the tourism industry came forward in solidarity after the incident. “This reflects how crucial tourism is to the region’s economy and its people. Tourism fosters economic integration and leaves lasting memories for those who visit,” Burza concluded. (KNS)
