NIA raids around dozen locations in valley including GK office, claims seizure of ‘incriminating documents’


Srinagar, Oct 28 (KNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at around dozen locations in Kashmir valley, including the offices of Srinagar based leading English daily Greater Kashmir. Agency simultaneously raided one location in southern Indian city Bangalore and claimed seizure of ‘incriminating documents’ during searches.
According to reports reaching to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the raids were conducted in twin districts of valley – Srinagar and Bandipora – and one location in Bangalore.
The agency in a statement reads out, “The raids were in connection with a case pertaining to certain Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and Trusts raising funds in within the country and abroad in the name of charitable activities and then using those funds for carrying out secessionist and separatist activities in J&K”.
The statement said, “The case was registered by NIA on 08.10.2020 u/s 120B, 124A IPC and sections 17, 18, 22A, 22C 38, 39 and 40 UA(P)A, 1967 on receipt of credible information that certain NGOs and Trusts are collecting funds domestically and abroad though and business contributions etc and are then utilizing these funds for secessionist and militant activities in J&K”.
Those whose premises have been searched include residence and office of Khurram Parvez (coordinator of J&K Coalition of Civil Society), his associate Parvez Ahmad Bukhari, Parvez Ahmad Matta and Banguluru based associate Swati Sheshadri and Parveena Ahanger, chairperson of Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDPK) and office of NGO Athrout and GK Trust.
The agency also raided the residence of a Hurriyat activist in Brar village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
“Sleuths of NIA assisted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF conducted raid on residential house of Mohammad Yousuf Sofi alias Salman son of Abdul Rashid Sofi, resident of Brar, Bandipora”, official told KNS.
He said some suspicious documents during the searches were taken away by NIA sleuths.
NIA in its statement claimed to have seized several incriminating documents and electronic devices from these locations.
