Sports pivotal for promoting camaraderie: Shaheen

Ramban, Jan 14 (KNS): Maitra Cricket Club (MCC) Ramban defeated Chandrok Cricket Club (CCC) Ramban in the finals of Ramban Premier League T-20 Cricket Tournament and clinched the trophy at the keenly contested match, played in the District Police Lines play-field here.
Giving away the winters and runners trophies, National Conference District President Sajjad Shaheen lauded youth of the area for taking keen part in sports alongside academics, saying sports promote camaraderie and the spirit of inclusiveness, which is pivotal for facing the challenge unfolded by the divisive forces.
Shaheen, who was chief guest on the concluding function of the tournament, described youth as catalysts of change and called for societal intervention in channelizing their energies in proper direction. He appreciated the high degree of discipline shown by the players, as also the sports lovers during the tournament and said this could prove a motivating factor for talented youth to showcase their talent. He exhorted young players to concentrate on the game and specialise in disciplines like batting and bowling, which will put them in good stead to face the competitions at various levels confidently.
The District President said sports present a unique opportunity to young boys and girls to excel and bring laurels, not only for themselves, but also for the state. He, however, called for stepping up efforts in promoting sports and creating adequate infrastructure in rural areas during recent years.
While presenting trophies, Shaheen hoped the participants will take victory as part of the game and concentrate on sharpening and further improving their skills. He congratulated the organizers, the Students Wing of National Conference, District Ramban, for promoting sports in the area. This is a part of the drive to generate awareness against the menace of drugs. He particularly lauded the efforts of District President of the Students Wing Masarat Malik and his team for organizing such a tournament.
The Dy SP Dar Rafiq Giri and Dy Advocate General Arjun Singh Raju were Guests of Honour at the concluding function.
Besides large number of cricket lovers, District Vice President Mohd Sadiq Naik, Mohd Khalil Sohil, Kuldeep Singh, Fareed Katoch and others were also present at the prize distribution function. (KNS)
