Mawer Qalamabad, Kupwara, August 31 (KNS): Skilled workers engaged under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Mawer Qalamabad Block of Kupwara district have urged the authorities to release their pending wage payments, which they say have remained unpaid for several years.

According to the workers, while the wages of unskilled workers for the years 2023 and 2024 have reportedly been cleared, payments due to skilled workers for the same period are still pending.

The workers claimed that funds for the payment of skilled workers under MGNREGA have already been made available by the Central Government, but despite the availability of funds, several skilled workers in Mawer Qalamabad continue to wait for their legitimate dues.

They alleged that the delay has occurred due to a lack of proper coordination between the Mawer Qalamabad Block administration and the Handwara Treasury, resulting in the pending payments remaining unresolved.

The affected workers said that they have repeatedly approached the concerned offices seeking the release of their wages, but the issue has not yet been resolved.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThey said that keeping the hard-earned wages of workers pending for years has caused considerable financial difficulties for many families.

The workers have appealed to the higher authorities, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, and the concerned Treasury officials to take immediate cognizance of the matter, verify the pending payment records and ensure that all legitimate dues are released without further delay.

They further urged the concerned departments to improve coordination and remove any administrative or technical hurdles that may be preventing the release of the payments.

The workers said that they are not seeking any favour but only the timely release of wages for the work they have already performed, and appealed to the authorities to resolve the matter at the earliest.(KNS)
